URBAN LANZAROTE

See those damn good looking Urban photographs up top there? Well, they’re all the way from Lanzarote don’t you know, it was our first stop location for this years summer and festival fashion shoot. We’re not the type to shack up at the nearest studio to knock out our photo shoots, no way, for us Urban lot it’s all about the location and the culture that surrounds these unique areas.

Yeah we know, the first thing that comes to mind with Lanzarote can only be hyped up European bars, dodgy tans, bizarre tourist attractions and very patient spanish locals putting up with our ways. But, if you jump in a car and take a little Journey around this holiday Island you’ll soon realise there is much to be discovered. Here’s what went down in our Urban Lanzarote Holiday…

Off the plane and here we go. Our first stop was to get shooting all our new threads and accessories with our hawt models. With a climate so warm most of the year round, the landscape of Lanzarote resembles that of a futuristic sci-fi movie. Dusty roads, flat land, high hills and glowing sunsets can be seen from all across the island. It’s no wonder film epics such as One Million Years BC (1966) and Doctor Who’s Red Planet were filmed here. For us it was the perfect location to get our fashion going on. Motorbikes and models galore…

Prior to our departure we thought it’d be real cool to check out the surfing scene (any excuse to get our feet wet), and hit up surfing pro Rob Barber. With his entire career involved in surfing, winning awards, teaching celebrities and running surf schools all over the globe, we knew we would get some solid advice for this established water rider. Here’s some tips he threw at us.

“In the north of the island La Santa is Europe’s answer to Hawaii. Having surfed both, in my opinion the waves here can be much more powerful and challenging than Hawaii! Incredible to watch, take a look at ‘El Quamao’ (it means ‘the burned one’). Slightly to the north is ‘La Santa Left’, known as ‘The Slab’ as the wave breaks on a shallow, triangular shaped lump of lava rock”

“On the northern tip of the Island is Famara beach. This is great for learning and you will see a lot of surf schools there. To the south of this is a semi secret reef break called San Juan”

“The east coast has a great spot called Jameos Del Agua. It’s a left point break which works well when there is a big swell and light winds. The east coast also has some secret reef breaks with lovely white sand beaches and really bright blue water.”

Alas, we arrived at the shores to be greeted by dark clouds, ruling out our chance to hop on a board and shred the waves. We left it the locals to ride the ol’ blue …

Frustrated with water envy we hopped back in the car and headed out into the Lanzarote wilderness, taking in the sights until upon the horizon appeared a curious building. With sculptures and handmade figurines scattered all amongst its grounds we wondered where we had arrived. Turns out it was shop and gallery by the name of Cerámica Teseguite.

Owned by Stefan Schultz and his wife Heidelberg, Cerámica was established back in 1988 when Stefan and his wife moved from Germany to enjoy a life in Lanzarote. Stefan designs the pots and ornaments, Heidelberg paints them, such a beautiful life. Stefan was kind enough to show us all around his workshop…

Thirsty work all this art, so naturally our next stop had to be El Griffo, the oldest Vine Yard in the Canary Islands (est 1775). Yes we said 1775, so old even Shakespeare named dropped the wine in the Twelth night. “O knight, thou lack’st a cup of canary!”

Relaxed and all chilled we head back to the team to see what they have been up to. Wait…what?! NOT THE GIRAFFE!
