FESTIVAL DO'S AND DONT'S: FASHION

Festival season is underway! You’re out here trying to have the best weekend of your life, making friends with strangers and getting lost in fields of freedom, but you’ve gotsta be practical, right? Whether you’re a festival veteran or rookie, there is always something that rears its ugly head at a festival. Sandals in the rain? Not fun. Barbour jacket in the searing sun? You’re in trouble playa! Follow these fashion do’s and don’ts and you just might make it through winning…

DO Dress Easy…

All of that walking, standing shoulder-to-shoulder and waving your arms in the air like you just don’t care isn’t easy when you’re layered up. Keep it simple and light: playsuits and plain tees work.

DON’T Wear White…

Just don’t. Unless you don’t mind stepping your dirt game up a notch, or you’re in the V.I.P. section: where mud and things of that nature are unspoken. But for us regular lot, best to avoid this colour choice.

DON’T Bring Your Best…

If you’re worried a mosh pit will transform that t-shirt into a vest in a matter of seconds, or those stubborn grass stains are just not coming out no matter what the ads tell you, leave your best attire at home and opt for simple and vintage clothing.

DO Backpack it out…

Hand free is a rarity at festivals. From food to water bottles to whatever else ends up in your palms can make things a little frustrating when you’re gallivanting across the fields. Get a decent and sturdy backpack for your goods, but don’t over pack – not only will it take a toll on your back, have you ever stood behind someone with a bag that’s the size of a small child in a crowd? It sucks.

DO Assume It’ll Rain…

Just take anything the weather folks say with a grain of salt during festival season. Throw in a light jacket and some Wellies for back-up in case the heavens open.

DON’T Bring an SLR Camera…

Unless you’re in the press team, or have no issues babysitting that badboy – why have that expensive piece of equipment around your neck? Capture those moments with a Lomo camera. The natural light will expose images effortlessly, and for the blog heads, the vignette-effect these cameras produce will have your pictures looking all Tumblr-esque.

DO bring these…

Towels and blankets…these are 2 vitals when you’re festivaling. A blanket makes for good sitting, and you’ll marvel at the magic of a towel at times like these.
