FESTIVAL 101: THE GREAT ESCAPEMay 3, 2013
If you’re the kind of person who likes to be in the know about the next big thing, you won’t be disappointed to see 350 acts pile into the pubs and clubs of Brighton’s Great Escape Festival. It’s not all about the headliner here, it’s about the fresh scene, the next big thing, who’s got the grit and who’s going to dominate the radio waves for the year ahead.

The Great Escape experience is, well, great! Bands perform to blow you away, shredding the stage to impress fans as well as the serious industry types with record contracts at the ready. You’ll go home to your friends with a hundred stories beginning with “you should have been there when…”, ” I can’t believe they…”, then eventually, when the new bands break big time, you can boast to your hearts content… “I WAS there…” “I did see it when…”
Fresh from the minds of our Urban crew, here’s who we’ll be going to see at The Great Escape…
One for the garage band lovers. Girls Names will no doubt tear up the stage with their fresh approach a traditional sound.
Advant garde and full of hook. Darkstar are a band for those with plenty of time for experimental noise making.
Electro pop with a dark edge. This Scottish three piece were tipped for great things on the BBC promising talent list.
All the way from music mecca town Brooklyn NY. It’s punk how it should be…
Unknown Mortal Orchestra
Funky live jam.
