9 EYES WATCHING

9 eyes is the Google street-view project of Jon Rafman, an Canadian artist with an eye for the bizarre happenings in a digitally documented world. We can only assume Jon has travelled the internet earth many times over to find these moments, scouring countries and continents for street-view delights. No doubt you’ll be mouthing “what the (curse word of your choice)” by the time you’re through with these.

9 EYES WATCHING

A prominent figure in the world of contemporary film and art, Jon of course has a poetic explanation behind this particular project. Here are some of his thoughts.

“My work explores the paradoxes of modernity. In 2008, a year after Google sent out an army of hybrid vehicles bearing nine cameras on a single pole to photograph the world, I began an exploration of this new virtual world, and was fascinated by how powerfully Street View photographs can represent our contemporary experience, the conflict they can express between an indifferent robotic camera and man’s search for connectedness and significance”
