IN BERLIN: THEESATISFACTIONMay 27, 2013
Last week we found ourselves on Berlin’s doorstep, knocking at the door of the amount of culture in the city. Our mission? To delve deep into the unknown, steering clear of the usual touristy spot, leaving no stone unturned on our hunt for inspiring stories. Just imagine our delight when we discovered Seattle based R’n'B jazz-infusion Hip-Hop soul duo (take that for a pigeon hole) THEEsatisfaction were playing at the world famous Berghain Kantine. Camera at the ready we headed down to catch the girls in action…
The small and intimate venue (just outside the epic space that is Berghain’s main music hall) provided a packed crowd buzzing with anticipation to see rapper Stasia “Stas” Iron and singer Catherine “Cat” Harris-White grace the stage. A single laptop and stool took its place; a low red light lingered across the room, and out walked the Americana mamas in Berlin, one single mouse click away from an hour of solid neo-soul sounds.
The crowd mingled and entwined, united in head bops as the duo reeled off their sensuous catalogue from album “Awe Naturale”. Crowd pleasers “Queens” and “Enchantruss”, well, more than pleased the crowd, and die-hard fans whooped something crazy for 2011 LP “Black Up” hit track “Do You Have Time”. As if the sound wasn’t enough, the girls were ‘Wopping’ and soul clapping in between (with soulful interludes) and during tracks to spur the crowd to join in. A room full of fans in the palm of their hands, demanding not just one, but two encores!
THEEsatisfaction, we’re satisfied! Watch their full live set below on KEXP last year and witness the on-stage charm.
