NITRO ICE CREAM: CHIN CHIN LABSJuly 28, 2013
With Urban Outfitters Camden now fully live and kicking, we thought we should go check out what’s going down in our local digs. Along with the world famous Camden markets, an abundance of edgy tattoo parlors, pubs galore and tons of punk rock heritage, Camden is currently host to the Summer Nights Market – a 6 week event boasting an awesome variety late night stalls and parties every Thursday until the 31st August.
Whilst smack bang in the middle of this market action, we stumbled across Chin Chin Labs – Europe’s one and only nitro ice-cream parlor.
What’s nitro ice cream? Well, instead of your usual pre-frozen deal, fresh ingredients are prepared on the spot and blended with liquid nitrogen. The result is one smooth, creamy taste sensation. Total mouth party…
Owned by pastry chef Ahrash and business partner Nyisha (they’re also husband and wife), Chin Chin Labs has been churning out the cold stuff for 3 years. The extensive menu with 176 different flavour combinations is packed full of secret recipes and out of the box ideas. Just look at this Green Grass ice cream with “edible cotton” and tell us this isn’t food porn.
Each week Ahrash and his small team think of new recipe ideas that’ll blow your mind, the most popular flavours so far being Christmas pudding, peanut butter, donut, and a scone inspired combination made especially for the Queens Jubilee.
Look out in the future for the experimental French fry feat, birthday cake, and the out there topping that is “pork-corn” – yup, that’s popcorn that tastes like bacon.
This genius idea doesn’t go un-noticed; Chin Chins labs are in a constant battle with corporate chains trying to figure out the secrets to their recipes. Don’t worry, they will never tell – so you know exactly where to go when the urge for some authentic and masterfully created nitro-ice cream.
“I eat cheese before I go to bed and dream up new flavours, I have a little black book where I write them all down” – Ahrash
Chin Chin to that – the perfect neighbors for our new Camden store.
