UO REVIEW: BEACONS FESTIVALAugust 24, 2013
We’re back from Beacons – the independent music and arts festival situated in the hills of Yorkshire.
Surviving a 3-day festival with vivid memories can be something of a miracle; so to keep it tight and snappy we’ve knocked up this simple acrostic poem to supply you with all the festival deets.
Here you go!
B is for…
Back-to-back awesome music.
Sets from the likes of Melody’s Echo Chamber, The Wytches, Hookworms, Ben UFO, Bicep, Fucked Up, Gold Panda and John Talabot had us moshing one moment and 2-stepping the next.
E is for…
Eating the finest festival food we’ve ever encountered.
This wasn’t your usual overpriced slop. Mother Cluckers whipped up some mean chicken burgers and Red’s BBQ pulled pork sufficed as the ultimate hangover cure. Not often will you crave grub consumed over a 3-day party, but we’d happily return to those Yorkshire fields and fix up another plate.
A is for…
Alternative, ambiguous and all together out-there activities.
We took a trip ‘Into the woods’ to find ourselves whiskey tasting by day and spectating obscure performances by night.
Let it be said, when you find yourself half consumed in a sofa at 3am, watching a seemingly normal lady down a pint in performance slow-motion (we’re talking 5 minutes here) you’ve probably hit festival vibe high.
C is for…
Chillin’ in the Urban Outfitters Tent of course!
Sofas, magazines, DJs, Screen Printing and our very own pop-up shop. You can get a good look inside our UO tent right HERE.
O is for…
Overwhelming – by which we refer to Danny Browns set on the Sunday afternoon.
When you’ve got stewards running about posting explicit content signs on every available pole, you’re probably doing something right…right? DB’s ferociously filthy lyrics had the crowd crazed from the very first bar, plus parents fleeing the arena with far more than the bird’s and the bee’s left to explain.
N is for…
Yeah we know, weak link – but we enjoy nothing more than a bit o’ people watching whilst out and about on festival adventures. Beacons sure did supply some sights.
S is for…
Splashh. This hackney foursome have been on our Radar for quite some time, we even used their first single as the soundtrack for our Camden Store party video. Alt-rock stoner-esque tones provided the perfect contrast to a hard night raving in the dance tents. Five days on and we still have singles ‘Vacation’ and ‘All I wanna do’ ringing in our minds.
So there we have it, Beacons festival in a short blast of Urban highlights. We’ll never truly sum up any event with a list of words and images, so be damn sure to add Beacons to your festival schedule for 2014.
