SUNDAY HANGOUTS: THE YARDAugust 5, 2012
So it’s Sunday, you’ve woken up a little fuzzy and you’re not quite sure where your phone is (don’t worry, it’s probably under last night’s discarded clothes or in the toaster). And maybe it’s raining outside, but you want to make the most of your weekend, damn it! We’re here to help. If you’re in London and you can drag yourself outside, head to The Yard Theatre in Hackney Wick.
It’s a cinema-cum-arthouse-cum-restaurant-cum-bar and is a brilliant place to while away any number of hours with friends. Built into an abandoned warehouse in one of the city’s most creative boroughs, The Yard is a venue with a difference. They pick a performance (some filmic, some not) and usher people in to their ramshackle-looking theatre to sit on old classroom chairs. The bar’s mere metres away, and the menu serves really, really good food.
There’s usually some sort of art going on somewhere, or a gig in the evenings when a film’s not a-screening. Even without all the entertainment, The Yard’s a great place to hang out, because the people who run it are just ruddy nice. Gets our vote every time.
Where are your Sunday hangouts? Tell us in the comments and if we love them we might put them on here.
