VINTAGE ONE-OF-A-KINDNovember 14, 2013
From the flea markets of Mexico to the outskirts of LA – our very own vintage buyer Sarah Kearney has been traveling the globe in search of unique vintage garms.
At last, Sarah has returned to UO HQ to tell the tale of where she found these One Of A Kind (OOAK) wears. It’ll blow your freakin’ mind. Over to you Sarah…
I sourced this immaculate condition, ‘80s sequin dress from a collector based on the outskirts of LA. When we arrived, we were lead to a basement, which I can only describe as an Aladdin’s cave of vintage sequins. It was hard to part with this one.
I found this ‘70s Tapestry Cape amongst a huge pile of clothing at a flea market in Mexico. Just as I was about to admit defeat I found this gem. It was so heavy to carry around in the blazing heat, but it was well worth it.
This rare Ralph Lauren, Aztec-inspired coat is a true collectable in the vintage circuit. It was bought through a source in Wisconsin who specialises in collecting vintage Ralph Lauren. Whoever picks up this beauty has a true piece of RL history.
I love this ‘80s sequin jacket I found in NYC. When I’m on buying trips for vintage pieces I always think about the previous owners. I imagine this jacket being worn by a fabulous lady on a cruise ship vacation.
When I picked up this Ralph Lauren from a dealer in Japan, it blew me away. It’s green, it’s leather, it’s a wicked parka shape, and its vintage Ralph Lauren. As you would expect from RL, the leather is as soft as butter and still in great condition over 30 years later.
You would think it’s easy to source USA pro-sports pieces, but it’s not. No true fan gives up their favourite sports merch which is why the NFL, NBA and MLB tops we have in our Urban Renewal range are so special. When we sourced this vintage leather Lakers bomber in Canada, I loved it straight away.
It wasn’t easy searching through tonnes of clothes, travelling thousands of miles in the blazing heat and freezing cold to ensure we found only the most unique and rare finds, but we think it was worth it. We hope you do too.
Remember, there’s just ONE of each of these in the world. Click the image below and shop the whole collection.
