ALISON'S LONDON HOTSPOTS

Hip new places in London can be hard to come by, what with everyone on the look-out for something different and exciting. Luckily here at Urban, we have a pretty good nose for that sort of thing. Okay, okay, we tapped up Alison Mosshart, one half of The Kills, style icon and general sensation. Bring a journal, you’ll want to take notes.

Art Gallery: RIFLEMAKER GALLERY- “I saw a great William Burroughs exhibition here a few years ago. This is a great little space with lots of cool artists showing here. Every time I walk by, I have to poke my head in.”

Venue: The ROUNDHOUSE- “My favourite place to play in London. Yes, it’s round, a former railway engine shed in Chalk Farm. The sound is great. The sight lines are better. It feels really good to be on stage at the Roundhouse. Shows I’ve seen there that were mind blowing… Sonic Youth playing the whole Day Dream Nation, Jay Z during his Blueprint 3 tour, and Seasick Steve for the Itunes Festival last year.”

Restaurant: LA BOTTEGA NEGRA- “Finally really good Mexican food in London. Underground in a former porn shop, this place looks and feels fun and cozy. It’s dark, drenched in tequila, and the music is usually great. Order the red and green sea bass, the green rice and a tuna tostada. The hibiscus frozen margaritas are delicious and purple. Tip your wait staff, they deserve it.”

Bar: The Cigar Bar at Claridges. “This is the most beautiful art deco bar to drink at in London. It’s small, romantic, and the mohair velvet couches and old mirrored and leathered walls will make you weep. It’s perfect.”

Record store: Haggle Vinyl- “They only sell vinyl and it’s all used. This is a get on your hands and knees, spend 4 hours, dig around, and get lost kind of record store. The shop owner will play any of the records you find if you want to hear them. He knows where everything is if you’re looking for something in particular. Which is a miracle.”
