10 YEARS OF SANDQVISTOctober 16, 2014
In 2004 a bored civil engineer called Anton Sandqvist needed a new backpack to carry his laptop in. Unable to find one that he liked, and sensing a creative opportunity, he bought himself a sewing machine and disappeared into his basement. Thirty hours later it was done; a brand new backpack that won him a whole load of compliments. He chucked his job, launched his own label, and Sandqvist was born.
Nowadays, the brand is synonymous for great Scandinavian design, celebrated for their fuss-free dependability and old-fashioned styling. Anton has since escaped the basement, now doing much of his work from a cabin in the Swedish woods.
“We are all outdoor enthusiasts who are happiest when we are out in the wild. We wanted to make everyday products inspired by nature that work just as well in the city as they do in the mountains or beside a river.
Being modest as many Swedes are, my dream is not to build an empire but to make bags that people love and that will last a long time.” – Anton Sandqvist
