CHRISTMAS DIY WITH MORGANE GINERSDecember 11, 2014
In the season of giving and festive cheer, what could be lovelier than making personalised Christmas gifts for your friends and fam? Nothing, that’s what – so we asked DIY blogger Morgane Giner (Plan B) to show us some easy-to-do crafty DIY to make your presents extra special.
I’ve been shooting with this Lomography Diana camera for ages, and it inspired me to craft a custom camera strap to make it extra special. It’s the perfect DIY gift for your friends who live their life looking down a lens. – Morgane
What you’ll need:
- A piece of patterned fabric.
- A fancy ribbon.
- A little piece of white pleather.
- 2 little hooks and rings.
- A tape measure.
- A pair of scissors.
- A pen.
- A piece of cardboard.
- Some thread and a sewing machine (you can hand sew too).
1 – Create a cardboard template following the dimensions in the picture above.
2 – On the wrong side of the pleather, trace the four shapes using the cardboard template.
3 – Cut the four shapes out of the pleather.
4 – Take the patterned fabric and cut a 76cm x 11cm strip out of it. You can also try a 60cm length if you like to wear your camera high.
5 – Fold the strip inside out so you’re looking at the wrong side of the fabric. Stitch along the long edge.
6 – Turn the strap inside out again, so the fabric is now on the correct side.
7 – Stitch again along the edges.
8 – Pass the ribbon through the hook.
9 – Cut the ribbon and pin it to one of the pleather shapes.
10 – On top of it the pleather, pin one end of the fabric strap.
11 – Place a second pleather shape on top, so the fabric strap is now sandwiched in between.
12 – Stitch along the edge, and follow the same steps for the other end of the strap.
13 – Remove the Diana camera strap and put the two little hoops to hook up your brand new strap.
14 – This camera is quite light so the hoops will not break. If you want to make this strap for a heavier camera, use thicker hooks and hoops.
Snap! Your turn.
