BEHIND THE BRAND – ORGANIC OIL COJanuary 20, 2015
Shacked up in the Swedish city of Malmö is the experimental workshop of The Organic Oil Co – a group of skincare alchemists who merge the age-old qualities of oil with pioneering natural ingredients to create a new generation of dermatological nourishment.
Tackling anything from dry skin to aging, dual force oil enthusiasts Josefin Kvist and Daniel Carlsson take a lab approach to their products, searching and experimenting for the next best thing in skincare. We caught up with Josefin and Daniel to find out a little more.
UO: How did the Organic Oil Co first come about?
JOSEFIN: It was a hobby of Daniel’s to start with; to make oils, creams and body care with only organic and fair raw materials. The problem was that there was really no way of ensuring the quality and fairness of the raw materials without importing them ourselves, and from that that the idea of a business formed.
UO: What is it about oil that is so beneficial to our skin?
J: There are many different cold pressed organic vegetable oils and they all contain various fatty acids, nourishments and other stuff that is highly beneficial for your skin. Just like with food, your skin needs to have variation and the right kind of nourishments. Combine them with plant extract and you have truly natural and efficient skincare.
UO: It looks like you do a fair amount of experimenting in your workshop – how long does it to develop an idea recipe into a finished product?
J: It takes a lot longer than you would think. After formulation and testing the balance and benefits of the product, all products require testing and to be approved according to regulations, then officially registered before they hit the market. Even though all our ingredients are natural, organic and fair, this is required fore safety reasons.
UO: How do you discover the beneficial properties in fruits and plants to begin with?
J: Daniel does the hard work here; before he decided to do this full time, he was an ethics researcher. The researching-skills come in very handy as there is a lot of research to read and understand, in order to know what truly works for your skin.
