ARTIST OF THE WEEK – ALEX FOWKESFebruary 26, 2015
A few months back we invited typographer and illustration whiz, Alex Fowkes, to add his unique creations to the walls of UO Munich. Well, we were so darn impressed with his work that flew him over to the brand new UO Milan to do it all over again.
Adapting his trademark typography skills into a more illustrative style, Alex took to covering every viewable surface with his impressive artwork. Read what he had to say about the project below…
“This piece features my pattern illustration work very heavily, a style that I pick up every now and then when the brief is right. I like to respond to the environment and any natural quirks, so the concept of the artwork wasn’t planned and literally created right there on the spot.
I began the project a few months ago when I illustrated on 25 plywood boards, which were turned into the grid walls/tables/stools, all across the store. It’s awesome to see your work entwined into something that you wouldn’t have necessarily thought of, or even had the machinery or know how to create. It’s this process that makes the project so exciting for me and for those who collaborated in making it all happen.” – Alex
