GREASE IS THE WORD

GREASE IS THE WORD

Be it guilty pleasure or out and out admiration, you can’t help but love Grease, right? The bit where Olivia Newton John turns naughty? C’mon! We found out that Future Cinema were holding an event based around the film and immediately donned our Pink Lady and T Bird jackets – a few weeks early, but what the heck. When we arrived on the day Barnes Common had been completely transformed into Rydell High, complete with teachers, American football players and cheerleaders. We grabbed some fries at the Diner and made a mental note to avoid the swing ride for at least half an hour, then chomped down on some popcorn from an in-character seller while we took in our surroundings. The place was full to bursting with guests in full regalia, milling about and watching the performances of Future Cinema actors who really get into the part. The only way the place could have been more Grease is if we were in late-70s USA, wearing John Travolta. The entire crowd sang along to most of the film too – it’s not often you get to see that many people shouting ‘wella wella wella, uh!’

In short, a brilliant night. If you’ve never been to a Future Cinema event, we suggest that you do.
