DISPOSABLE DIARIES: ANDREYA TRIANAAugust 27, 2015
August is coming to a dismal end and we’ve been wondering where the sun has been for the last month. The mystery became clear when we got a disposable camera back from singer-songwriter, Andreya Triana. It’s been hovering over Croatia, showering the people of Soundwave festival with its glorious rays. It’s alright for some!
We caught up with Andreya to talk summer highlights, Brixton haunts and to live vicariously through her Soundwave snaps.
UO: Do you come from a musical background?
I come from a family of music lovers, but I’m the only one to pursue it as a career.
UO: Was there a moment when you knew you wanted to be a musician?
I think I always knew – it was what I loved the most and had the most fun doing!
UO: Who inspires you – both personally and professionally?
Sia really inspires me with the way she’s gone from being an underground featured singer to one of the most in demand and successful songwriters
UO: You grew up in Brixton. What’s your favourite thing about Brixton? Any old haunts?
Brixton is one of my favourite places in the entire world. It’s always been a melting pot for music and culture and one of my favourite places has to be Brixton Village. It’s changed so much over the past few years.
UO: What’s been the highlight of your career to date?
Playing to a sold out crowd at The Royal Albert Hall. My 88 year-old granddad came to that show too and he’d never been to one of my gigs before. There was dancing, tears and one too many glasses of wine! It was a night I’ll never forget!
UO: What have been the most valuable lessons you’ve learnt from your family?
UO: What has been your summer highlight?
Playing to a packed out and happy tent at Glastonbury this year was amazing. Also doing a live performance for BBC coverage was fun too.
UO: What do you do to get the creative juices flowing when you feel creatively blocked?
Listen to music that opens my mind and inspires me.
UO: What are your wardrobe staples?
For my stage style I love a good clash print suit, killer heels and tribal jewellery.
UO: What’s next in 2015?
Hopefully great things… watch this space!
UO: What advice would you give to someone who wants to go into music?
1. Make music you love
2. Believe in yourself
3. WORK HARD
I’m currently listening to… The new Hiatus Kayote album Choose Your Weapon
My favourite time of year is… Summer
My favourite snack is… Sweet and salty Propercorn… love that stuff!
If I wasn’t a musician I’d be… Lost
My favourite way to relax is… Crashing out on the sofa and watching Orange Is The New Black
If I could be anywhere in the world right now I would be… On a beautiful beach in sunshine drinking cocktails!
We sent the lovely Andreya a disposable cam before she packed her bags and stole the sun away to Croatia. We’re kind of jealous because this is what it looked like…
