Epic landscapes and intimate portraits characterise the photo diary of London-based photographer, Rosaline Shahnavaz on her road trip around California. Her analog images capture sun-drenched moments, warm colours, moments of laughter and beautiful scenery.

“There’s this enormous sense of freedom when you’re on the road. We hadn’t planned much but we packed what we needed and set off for the warmth of the California sun. We travelled so many miles, but it didn’t feel like that because every stretch held something new. In the course of a day we could go from beach, to canyon, to snow, to desert, to mountain. There were times where we wouldn’t see anyone or anything for hours, just the empty road ahead and the sun’s rays on the hot tarmac. Sometimes we would stop and spend a night in a motel but we would wake up each day and know that the road and everything was ahead of us.”
