ANTWERP: TRAIN SWOTTINGOctober 9, 2012
We really enjoyed our train ride to Brussels. A little too much. The views, the sense of adventure… the seat fabric. And as we hopped on the train from Brussels to Antwerp we couldn’t help but compare the two. So it was that a kind of train Top Trumps was born. We shall call it Train Swotting.
Eurostar to Brussels:
Commendably strong stripes on the seats. Bold. Not afraid of making a statement. Jutty-outy left-right headrests, good. Legroom, bad. Room for ample bag? Negative. Had to use the next carriage. Also left coffee in the next carriage by mistake.
Local Train from Brussels to Antwerp:
Not entirely sure that pale pink and grey are really a win. Neither were the matching light purple plastic fittings. A rare colour and for good reason. On a positive note we were more than happy with the space above our heads and beyond our feet. The ample bag was an easy fit, PLUS the train was a double decker, a fact not lost on those of us still miffed by the complete absence of these marvellous creations back home in boring ‘single deck Britain’.
