The unassuming coastal town on the south-west coast of France is a surfer’s paradise and go-to holiday destination for a dose of sunshine and your yearly fill of sandy beaches. The windy streets are lined with colourful villas and at dusk, the sounds of people wining and dining spills into the streets. We took a trip to the chic (and slightly shabby) seaside town to find out more. Here are our highlights…

Les Halles De Biarritz

The hub of Biarritz has to be the colourful farmer’s market, Les Halles de Biarritz. Locals congregate to barter, browse, laugh and joke under the vaulted ceiling of the enormous food hall, situated in the center of town. Instead of hitting the supermarket for your groceries, head over to the market for fresh, local produce and browse rows upon rows of fresh fruits, vegetables, pots of fat olives, huge wheels of cheese and meats of all varieties. Open every day from 7am – 2pm.

Beach House Anglet

On a sunny, summer day there is no better way to spend the afternoon than dipping your toes into the crystal blue pool at Beach House in Anglet, just north of Biarritz.

The dreamy beach club with its white-washed interiors, delicious brunch menu and sun-drenched decks is the perfect spot for a lazy day in the sunshine.

We arrived on the rainiest day in the summer, dodging rainclouds and listening to the thunder roll in off the coast, but despite the grey skies, we couldn’t help but swoon over the boho interiors and rustic, surf décor.

The brunch menu at Beach House is the stuff of dreams and arrives in three courses. (Any brunch that is served in multiple rounds is a winner for us) The initial breakfast spread was packed full of freshly baked pastries, fruit, and homemade granola with honey, while the main affair was a delicious selection of eggs, avocado on toast, sausages and bacon.

L’Etang Blanc

Our recipe for the perfect summer day. Take a trip out to Les Landes and visit L’Etang Blanc, the most ‘grammable pine forest you’ve ever laid eyes on. A rural area characterized by endless beaches, boating lakes, winding track roads and pine forests. Pack up a picnic and spend the day getting lost amongst the trees.
