For most people, their teen years are a string of questionable clothing choices and bad haircuts shrouded in self-doubt. 17-year-old Billie Marten however, has made the BBC Sound of 2016 longlist and released two beautiful EPs with a debut album on the way.

Hailing from Ripon in Yorkshire, Billie Marten is championing the crowded singer-songwriter space with her soft finger-picked guitar melodies and dreamy vocals.

Husky, melancholic and tender, she could kid you that she’s years older than she really is. Her sound will inevitably draw comparisons to early Laura Marling whilst RHODES could be her male equivalent.

With her haunting lyrics and expansive, acoustic sound, we can’t wait to hear more from Billie Marten with news of her debut album to be announced soon.
