BERLIN: MAUER PARKOctober 15, 2012
We spoke to a lot of people in Berlin. The guys we met instore, the people we met in little cafes , subjects we stopped in the street to take a picture of – and pretty much every one told us we had to go to Mauer Park on Sunday. So we did!
It’s a sprawling, thronging mass of stalls and sellers, shoppers and millers about, performers, eaters, musicians and us, agog in the middle of it all. Walking through the market itself, we clapped eyes on a gazillion trinkets. There was furniture, there were clothes, there was art, and through the maze of oddities we wound, until we ended up in our favourite place – the food bit. Handmade pizza and cocktails with sand underfoot and the waft of live music drifting through the air? That’ll do nicely, thanks very much.
In the afternoon a karaoke bear pit takes over the amphitheatre and had we had more time, we’d have been in there like pros (Islands in the Sun, if you must know). But we had to go and get a train to Copenhagen. It’s a dirty job…
