Amsterdam-based blogger, @lauresque talks us through her love of grandma-chic vintage. Over to you, Laura…

Though winter has its charm – cosy evenings and landscapes covered in blankets of snow, hot chocolate and crackling fires – I tend to prefer spring. I like sunny afternoons, whistling birds, floral dresses and lemonade. Those kinds of things. One thing that I do really like about winter, however, is wearing warm jumpers and wool trousers. Enormous coats, blanket size scarves and check prints. I basically like dressing up as my grandma.

I love wearing and combining vintage or thrifted pieces with new, timeless items. Grandma-chic is what I call it. Besides making it way easier to wear unique outfits, shopping second-hand is very sustainable and often cheap. It enables you to find and create your own style and investing in new items that are high quality and a bit more pricy isn’t a problem at all because you save lots of money by buying statement pieces second-hand.

For the outfit in the pictures I combined a timeless mock neck jumper, oversized coat and a grey pair of trousers with a more thrifted pair of loafers and a vintage purse. To finish a look like this one I like adding in a pop of spring by wearing red eyeshadow and a shimmery, rosy highlighter for a healthy glow. For a bit more glam I’d add a red beret and/or swap the brown purse for a red one. In my opinion, you can never go wrong with red.

Wrap a nice check print scarf around your neck and you’re good to go!
