How did you get into clothing design?

Ever since I can remember it’s what I wanted to do. I was really lucky coming from a creative background and with a lot of support from my family. I used to spend all of my time making clothes for my Barbies and trolls when I was a child, even with tiny felt buttons and their names embroidered on the back! At school I was always really into art and eventually went to uni to study Fashion Print and Womenswear before starting my own label.

How would you describe your design aesthetic?

Whimsical and intricate with lots of personality.

What themes do you like to explore in your designs?

Modern day femininity in contrast with traditional notions in a form of rebellion. Traditional craft is really important to me, so its also about keeping those crafts alive; embroidery, embellishment, hand drawing all are huge features in my work.

What are you inspired by?

I’m very into films, they’ve often been the starting point for a new collection.

What’s your creative process like?

I start with research, which leads me into colour, fabrics and imagery for print and embroidery. I normally design the shapes around those elements.

Do you have anything exciting coming up that you can tell us about?

I’ll be collaborating next season with an incredible shoe brand on the first Clio Peppiatt shoes!
