BEHIND THE BRAND: TRUE VINTAGEDecember 6, 2017
In the lead up to our Christmas Market event at the Urban Outfitters Marble Arch store in London on 9-10 December 2017, we’re speaking to some of the exciting vendors that will be at the market. Next up, True Vintage…
Where did the idea to start True Vintage come from?
I first got into vintage clothing while I was at university. I loved the fact that it was all unique, and that you wouldn’t be wearing the same as someone else. I spent hours hunting down items and great deals. This soon evolved into re-selling my pieces to make room for more and more. After a while it became apparent that there was potential to set-up a website and start selling on a larger scale. The day True Vintage was created was whilst laying in bed in my university room. I decided that I wanted to have my own vintage brand. The website was up and running that same evening, and it all just went from there.
How do you go about sourcing your vintage pieces?
That is the golden question… but in a nutshell, we have slowly built a network of dedicated partners all over the globe, who search tirelessly to bring us the best vintage stock.
What is special about vintage clothing and why do you think it’s so sought after?
It’s very rare that you will see another person wearing a piece of our vintage clothing and I think people really buy into that opportunity to be unique. On top of that, vintage clothing generally seems to be made to a higher standard from our experience, not to mention that it holds its value more than a lot of more modern clothing.
What are you inspired by?
80’s and 90’s culture is obviously a massive influence within the business. Bringing back clothing from that era allows people to reconnect with it in many ways, and it’s inspiring to have the ability to facilitate that through our brand.
How do you make sure that your selection of vintage stands out? What is unique about your pieces?
Having a closer connection with our customers than other retailers means that we can really tailor our search for different stock around what we know they will like. This synergy is essential to us – customers rely on us to do the searching, and we rely on the clothes to do the talking. That is why our selection stands out.
Do you have anything exciting coming up that you can tell us about?
There’s always something exciting in the pipeline. The big one currently is the launch of our clothing brand – True Collective, coming very soon. We have been experimenting with our own designs for a while now and this is something that we are super excited about. Also coming out soon is our video look book, we teamed up with our friends at fresh cut creative on this, and it was a really fun project. Oh and of course, more pop-ups! Keep your eyes peeled for those…
