Tell us about your event and what inspired you to host your own night?
Storm: Ari and I have played together on numerous occasions and felt it was finally time to throw a party together. Its been a long time coming, just took setting aside some time to truly come up with a vision for what has become Green Light Special. Ari being the master mind behind event planning and the enjoyment we give and receive playing together it just sort of made sense really to host a night where we could have friends, family, and fans all under one roof.
Ari: I’ve always been passionate about organising my own events and having creative control over the night. I understand that music is a key factor, but I enjoy finding new ways to engage, entertain and excite people at events. I’ve organised a variety of different events and we were fortunate to be given the opportunity to run Green Light Special at The Curtain Hotel… Despite us DJing, we wanted to use the platform we were given to show case other forms of creativity and reached out to a few upcoming brands & artists whose work would be featured on a looped reel throughout the night whilst we were playing.

Where do you guys usually DJ?
Storm: My main residency is with the Soho houses. I also play for the Curtain, Camden Assembly, Circa Soho and private events i.e Fashion, music, showcases etc.
Ari: You could say I’m a bit of a nomad when it comes to where I DJ. I started DJIng at The Box when I was 19 and have played an eclectic mix of clubs and events from across the capital to Tel Aviv, Delhi and New York. I also play at many of my own nights and events such as LDN Summer Sessions, a weekend pop-up bar on Bricklane at The Old Truman Brewery, and many other spontaneous pop ups. I’m currently a resident at The Curtain and have also have a temporary residency at The Soho Houses to cover Storm when she’s triple booked.
What is your music style and how does that influence your set?
Storm: Our sets are very open format. We never go in saying we are just going to play this… or that. Our versatility in genres is a big staple in what we do as DJ’s. We read the energy and sort of just go with the flow but the backbone I’d say always being old school Hip Hop and R&B.

Ari: My style of mixing is influenced by Hip Hop and turntablsim so you can expect to hear the occasional scratch in the set. But as Storm said, this doesn’t restrict what we’ll play on the night; our sets can cover all genres at times, but this all depends how in sync the crowd is with our flow.
Talk us through the night!
Storm: It basically all started with the nerves. There’s always that fear that no one will show up haha. But once all the familiar faces started rolling through the door we were ready to let our hair down. Then finally reaching that moment when you look up and you went from a few people on the dance floor to a room full of dancing queens definitely makes the weeks of stress and anxiety 100 percent worth it.
Ari: Playing back to back was definitely a turning point and highlight of the night as we were constantly feeding off each others energies and everyone in the room is involved and inspired by Storm’s dancing.
