In the city of romantic love, Paris, lies a road by the name of Rue Du Bac. This other wise regular road possesses a very unique attribute indeed. Sitting quaint and so very still is La Maison Deyrolle, the finest and most elegant taxidermy in Paris..nay.. the world.
Founded in 1831, Deyrolle collects and stores an eclectic mix of wild animals. Birds, bears, elephants and butterflies, there is not much you won’t find in it’s numerous rooms and cabinets of curiosities. The popularity of the Deyrolle among artists and the French public is undeniable. In 2008 La Maison was victim to a ferocious fire, destroying much of the galleries unique items. Through the power of the people, and the charity auction of many an artist’s work, Deyrolle was re-opened in 2009. It now stands restored, and remains beautifully unique.

In La Maison Deyrolle’s own words… “The principle of Deyrolle was always to bring to human nature the sense of observation and description : ‘an image is worth a thousand words’, so If one want to protect nature, one has to know it, understand it and overcome the cycles of reproduction of species as well”.
