THE CHILD OF LOV

Ladies and Gentlemen, may we introduce to you, twisted funk man The Child Of Lov! We would tell you his real name, but it remains a secret! Why? Who knows, but we can tell you after hours of internet abuse you will never find it, the only clue lying in one half faced portrait. Honestly, none of this matters, TCOL admits he is the product of his music. It’s all you need to relate to his crazy funked up sounds.

With his debut LP released on November 26th, The Child Of Lov can boast collaborations with Damon Albarn, Doom and Thundercat, not bad for a debut right? The result is unashamedly funk, but don’t let this fool you, the man has edge, think James Brown attitude with tons of instrumental grit. We dig that.

Check out the latest single “Heal” released via label Double Six! Video directed by Focus Creeps, bass lines provided by Damon Albarn. Nice…

We managed to grab a few words with TCOL, he even made us a little playlist for our new Spotify collection…

THE CHILD OF LOV

What’s your name?
The Child of Lov, that’s spelled L O V.

And what do you do?
I make music.

Is it fun?
Sometimes! When you create things, there’s always this tension between controlling the process and being controlled by the process. Having melodies in your head or dreaming of music, actually making it is something very special. It’s just something I know I have to do.

How did you get started?
Secretly, I’m not from a big musical family. I started making beats when I was thirteen or something. There was a piano in the house, which nobody played, so I started playing a bit and picked up playing guitar as well. Started singing, and everything sort of came together.

What’s the one thing you couldn’t do your job without?
I don’t know, man. I grew up poor, so I just made music with whatever worked. For example, I didn’t have enough money to buy a midi controller, so I taught myself how to play chords on the computer keyboard, on the shittiest computer. They can take anything away, I’ll manage.

What other musicians do you love?
I love Prince, D’Angelo, Outkast, Madlib, Badu, Neptunes, DOOM, Gorillaz, Sly & The Family Stone, as long as it’s funky. Oh yeah, and Justin Bieber. There, I said it.

What song can’t you help dancing to?
Stuff that makes you feel like a kid again. Like the Jackson Five’s ABC.

Any musical guilty pleasures?
Three words: pretty boy swag. And I don’t even feel guilty.

How many instruments do you play?
I read it was 21 somewhere, ha ha. I don’t know where they got that number. I ain’t gonna brag, enough to produce my own record.

What’s gonna be big for 2013?
Two Inch Punch is a great producer. Jai Paul is a great songwriter. Rejjie Snow is a great rapper.

THE CHILD OF LOV

What’ll you be doing for NYE?
I think I’ll be in the studio. NYE is so last year.

And what does next year have in store?
My second single will come out in January. My debut album will come out. And I’m really looking forward to performing these songs live next year.

Tell us a joke…
I believe there is something out there watching us. Unfortunately, it’s the government. (Woody Allen)
