Let’s take it back to the psychedelic 60′s, believe in free love, sit in fields and live in retro camper vans. Let’s conspire about the government, induce hazy visions of freedom, love all earths creatures and wear nothing but hemp. Let’s do all of this, whilst listening to the psychedelic sounds of Foxygen.

Hailing from Los Angeles, this duo consist of Sam France (Vocals) and Jonathon Rado (Guitars and Keyboards), both at the tender age of twenty-two! Rado and France formed Foxygen back in 2005, self releasing EP’s up until 2011 when they were discovered by label Jagjaguwar, can’t be too bad being label buddies with Bon Iver right? With the release of their second album , We Are the 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace & Magic, we’ve developed a massive music crush on Foxygen. We just want to go hang out with them and wear flowers in our hair…

Now let’s not become too obsessed here, the likes of Melody’s Echo Chamber and Tame Impala are all rocking the 60′s vibe boat, creating organic recordings in contrast to today’s chart music. It would also be foolish to brand such a genre as throwback or nostalgic, albeit true, there is an originality to Foxygen, they brandish a modern twist to the 60′s aura, setting themselves up for huge success in the years to come.

Check out track San Francisco. Listen well and tell us it’s not catchy? Go on, we dare you…

We were lucky enough to catch a few words with singer Sam France…

What do you do Sam?
I play music, dude.

Is it fun?
It’s fun but my mind is decaying.

How did it all start?
Plinkin’ on my Unkle Peyton’s old Casio. Cobwebbed demos with rado in 1998.

Nice. What’s the one thing you couldn’t do your job without?
Rado, and hella drugs…

What’s the maddest thing that’s ever happened at a gig?
Me getting mad at a guy for screaming/choking me.

What other musicians do you love?

What song can’t you help dancing to?
Maisie by Syd Barrett.

Any musical guilty pleasures?
Fuck you.

OK! What’s gonna be big for 2013?
Internets dyin’.

Do you have any party tricks?
I can pop a beer bottle open with my teeth.

And what does next year have in store?
Hopefully not Painful Death out of the leopard’s cage.

Tell us a joke…

FINE! Foxygen also curated a little Spotify playlist, tracks of inspiration behind their 60′s sound.
