BERLIN'S HIPSTER OLYMPICS

Last weekend marked the second annual Hipster Olympics in Berlin. That’s right, 6,000 painfully arty youths from Germany’s capital dragged themselves away from their Sonic Youth records to partake in an array of specialized events. It was with trademark lack-lustre that the skinny-jeans tug-of-war, vinyl-spinning marathon, and horn-rimmed-glasses-throwing contests took place, amongst other ironic events. And with the crown of Berlin’s Biggest Hipster up for grabs, who could blame their sportsmanlike apathy?BERLIN'S HIPSTER OLYMPICS

The Original Hipster Olympics Committee selected twelve cool teams from uneager online applicants, led by Alexander Bernikas, a 24 year-old student, who said it was both ironic and competitive. It was exactly the irony of the winning team, a group of young broadcasters from Jam FM, which got them the gold.It may not have been the stand-out sporting event of the year, but sports are, like, totally mainstream anyway.
