DOWN LOW WITH DOLDRUMS

This is Doldrums, the dreamy yet dirty sound of musician Airick Woodhead. Hailing from Montreal, this fresh face 22 year old college dropout is paving his way to alt-scene success with his new album Lesser Evil. Keep on scrolling for music, videos, pictures and an interview with the man himself.

DOWN LOW WITH DOLDRUMS

Let us describe Doldrums’ sound with quick fire words and expressions. Dreamy. Pumping. Distorted. Tropical. Wild. Rhythmically challenging. Full of hook. Deep. All with a sense of dispair from a man who admits a fear of modern technology in a world losing touch with reality.

Being touring buddies with Grimes has no doubt laid an influence on Airicks writing, he apparently used her laptop to record this recent album before heading over to XL in London to finish it all up. There is also truth in the fact that this genre of sound has become increasingly familiar amongst artists over the past few years, but, the Doldrums edge (and why we love it all the more here at UO) lies within the live performance. Using a full band to replicate the electronic sounds featured in the recordings, Airick displays an organic integrity to his craft, setting himself apart from a genre which typically features the massive use of laptops and pre-programmed digital effects.

We wanted to have a quick chat with Airick, here’s what went down.
