Three Ways To Wear: Pink Denim
Last year, barely a day passed by without someone muttering the phrase ‘Millennial Pink’. This season, the streets are awash with shades of blush and magenta paired with contrasting scarlet and crimson tones. But if you still find the prospect of wearing bright colours a little daunting, don’t panic. Freelance stylist and owner of Virtual Super Land, Orsolya Szabo (@_orsolya), is on hand to show us how to style one of this season’s most coveted colour palettes. Over to you, Orsolya…
I chose to style the BDG Pink Cropped Denim Culottes as although I don’t often wear much colour, I always make an exception for pink. Not just because gelato hues were everywhere from Tom Ford to Helmut Lung this SS18, or because colour drenched denim is having a moment right now, rather I’ve just always gravitated towards warm, happy colours. To me, pink is exactly that! Plus, it reminds me of delicious sweets, so that helps a lot. I also opted for denim as it’s a great way to induct some subtle, chic summer hues into your wardrobe whilst avoiding any new, complicated silhouettes.
For this first statement look, I must admit I was a little self-indulgent. It’s the head-to-toe pink fantasy that I’ve always wanted to wear, yet somehow have never managed to. Until now, obviously! If you’re sceptical about colour drenching when wearing pink, just go for it! There are so many colours to experiment with for all skin tones, and the brighter the better in my opinion.
For this look, I really wanted to mix pastel colours and I’ve always loved pastel blue on pastel pink. I also love adding oversized sweaters to pretty much everything. This blue one perfectly compliments the shape of the BDG culottes and seamlessly balances out the silhouette. Colours are also so important! I think once you get the colours within your outfit right, pieces that may not usually work together, come together rather nicely.
This last look also concentrates on the idea of pairing a light coloured top with colour block denim, for a slightly less daunting way to wear statement pink trousers. Pairing these trousers with a light, versatile sweatshirt is the perfect way to experiment a little more with your look whilst retaining comfort. If wearing bright colours is a really daunting prospect for you, invest in one coloured piece and mix with neutral hues. It’s a little like when you first wear red lipstick, you’re so aware of it. However, the more you wear it, the more natural and neutral it becomes.
The Dos and Don’ts of Wearing Colourful Denim:
- Experiment with one-colour looks – a matching jacket
and bottoms can rarely ever be wrong.
- Know that you can always make any bright coloured
denim work with a white t-shirt. It’s a fail-safe classic
that will always leave your outfit looking well put together.
- Choose bright washes for your denim fits if you’re looking
to dress up your outfits. Bright coloured denim is seen
as less casual than more traditional washes.
- Don’t be afraid! Start slow with a denim fit that you
know works for you and just try it in a bright colour.
- Don’t think it’s not for you! Bright denim is a great
way of incorporating some chic summer hues into
your wardrobe whilst avoiding any new, complicated
